ELECTRICITY SUPPLY
The power needs are not simply for provision of electricity but for stand-alone power systems that are long lasting, reliable and simple to maintain. Inexhaustible and infinitely renewable, solar energy offers the world sustainable and non-polluting source of energy. Free from embargo, solar power is available to all, wherever the sun shines. It can be used on any scale from milliwatts. Three types of electricity generation are offered, namely: inverter/charger-battery-backup, solar hybrid back-up and stand-alone electricity.
Modern inverters have caused a quiet revolution in the way we live with independent power systems, providing silent Alternative Current (ac) electricity anytime, anywhere. An inverter is a sophisticated microprocessor controlled device that transforms Direct Current (dc) power stored in the battery-bank into household ac electricity.
An inverter/charger converts an inverter, battery charger and transfer switch in one box. In addition to converting dc power from the battery-bank into ac power, an inverter/charger can also convert ac power from generator/utility supply into dc power to recharge batteries. To ensure the power supply is uninterrupted, some models feature automated generator start and stop capabilities, so supplementary power is automatically produced as necessary.
The inverter/charger‘s ability to process forms of incoming power makes it a popular choice for off grid applications as it provides homes and offices with a completely autonomous supply of electricity.
This type of installation ensures dual sources of battery-bank charging because; the battery-bank receives charges through the inverter as well as from solar panels. With this type of installation, the inverter/charger is connected to an ac source; and it converts ac from the source to dc and stores it in the battery-bank. The solar panels on the other hand, convert sunrays to electrical energy in the form of dc and store it in the battery-bank through solar charge regulator. The inverter then converts the dc from the battery-bank to ac and feeds all the equipment connected to it. When the inverter is put to the standby mode, it changes over power from public power/generator to solar power within 30 milliseconds of power cut, thus ensuring an uninterrupted power supply to the equipment, offices and individual homes etc.
As the name implies, the system is standing on its own and depends solely on the energy from the sun through the solar panels. In this type of installation, the solar panels convert the sunrays into electrical energy in form of dc and store the converted energy in the battery-bank through a solar charge controller. An inverter is connected to the battery-bank and converts the dc from the battery-bank into ac and power the equipment connected to it. This type of electricity is ideal for use in isolated and remote areas. |
